Goodbye sweet Rose!

Our time is up. We must send our borrowed kidlet home. We leave very early Saturday morning. My mom and I are driving Rose home. We are making a vacation out of it by taking 5 days to do what should only take 2. We will stop to see the Winchester Mansion in San Jose, ride the Roaring Camp steam engine train also in San Jose, drive up the scenic 1 and 101, drive through the gorgeous Redwood forest in Northern CA, take the scenic route through Oregon. Oregon has some gorgeous places to see...Crater Lake, Multnomah Falls, the Columbia River. Then we will head to Rose's home in Washington. On our way back home we will see the Lava Beds National Monument, Sacramento railroad museum, and lastly, Hearst Castle. I'm tired just typing about it.

I made a tribute video of Rose throughout the year. You can see how much she has changed. Thank you for all the encouraging words you all had for us this year. For the many prayers said on our behalf. For believing in us when we didn't and even more believing in Rose.

eek...just where is her GPA going? UP!!!

Do you all remember the crazy fights I used to write about at the beginning of the school year? They were all centered on Rose doing her homework and putting effort into her work. We struggled with Math and Science. It was like pulling teeth to get her to sit down and read. Now she begs to go to the library. Even at the end of the year we still struggled a little bit with homework but not as much. Most importantly, her grades came up. I would like to proudly share her final report card. (I owe it to you all as you read my posts and gave encouragement through the year.) Without further ado...

5 Question Friday

1. What is your favorite thing about summertime? I love the carefree feeling summer can give you. It brings back the memories of my childhood summers. Long hours at a pool, Otter pops, the total boredom...reading ahhhhhhh!!!!!!

2. What is your ideal retirement location (if money didn't matter)? I would pick somewhere remote. A cabin by a lake with lots of forest surrounding me. Or a beach house on an East coast beach. Where the houses are far apart and the tourists are few and far between. I love the Outer Banks of NC.

3. Do you live in the same town you grew up in? Umm, not exactly. I grew up in the mountains of San Diego. While I don't live in Campo anymore I am still in the area. I now live in another small mountain community...a smidge closer to the city of San Diego. While Campo was a 45 minute drive to the nearest city with shopping I am currently only 10 minutes away from the nearest city with shopping.

4. What nervous habit did you have as a child that you kicked to the curb before becoming an adult? I kicked chewing my fingernails to the curb around the 7th grade. Yes, I actually remember deciding to stop and just stopping.

5. What is the most embarrassing thing that happened to you while on the job? Farting while giving a massage. Totally embarrassing!

The process has started

Today we started the packing process. A years worth of junk collecting is currently sitting on my living room floor. I asked Rose to make piles. You know, the usual, trash~goodwill~pack...

Anyhoodles

I come out to the living room and find a huge mess. The trash and goodwill piles were non existent they were so small. I told her that more needed to go. She will be a future candidate for the show hoarders. I could see the attitude starting to build...so I did the only thing I could...I called in my mom to come get her for a sleepover. Now that she is gone I will go through her things. No worries...I'm pretty fair. Did I mention that her clothing is not pictured here? The few things you see here we had in storage. So this mess is all junk from her room. You know, that bunk bed loft you see to the left in the picture. It's amazing how much stuff you can store in such a small space.
I have not seen her room look this clean since just before she came last July!
T-minus 9 days before we leave for Washington!(state, that is!)

It's official, we have a 9th grader now

The morning of her graduation. It was very foggy outside. This was at 7:30 in the morning right before we left for school.
Yes, I let her graduate without her glasses. Sue me!
In her cap and gown. (I only got to wear a cap and gown for my HS graduation. Now kids wear them for everything. I think it takes away some of the glory from HS.)

By the time the ceremony started the fog had burned off and it was bright and sunny...and hot! Here, the kids are coming in at the beginning. Rose is about half way down the stairs.
Getting her diploma.

Newly graduated...and now a 9th grader!
With grandma.
Celebratory cupcakes. The frosting was not purple. It was black. But it had a purple tinge that obviously showed up in the picture. The food coloring was gross. It did not give me a true black and it tasted nasty. I ended up scraping off the gross frosting and replacing it with chocolate frosting. The cupcake wrappers were adorable!

Gettin' my creativity on...

So, Rose graduates the 8th grade on Tuesday. We went dress shopping at Kohls and found a really nice dress on their clearance rack. 70% off! Can't beat that. I could not find any jewelry to go with the dress that I liked, Rose liked or any combination of the two. Well, our Michaels is right next door. I started thinking that maybe making the jewelry would be a better idea. So off we went. I decided to match the jewelry to the new shoes Rose bought with her allowance. The dress is black and white. The shoes are a purpleish/lavenderish color. Rose got to pick out the pewter charm. She choose a cute flower.

Here is her necklace and bracelet! That bracelet won't even go around my wrist! The necklace was made at 16". That is choker size for most people but will fit her more loosely. The bracelet is about 6 1/2". Her wrists are 6" around. The bracelet probably won't even fit her in a few more years. Photos of it on her will be taken on Tuesday. I'll post after pics then.
